Unbounded - The Life & Work of Giselle Kuster is the first extensive publication on Giselle Kuster (Venlo, 1911-Heerlen 1972). An artist who led a dynamic life in which autonomy seems to have been all important.

This publication will be released on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at museum van Bommel van Dam, open to visit until 17 August.

Besides works from the museum's collection, the presentation includes "missing" paintings and designs traced through an appeal to people's homes. Some 140 works of art have already been traced to people's homes. Thanks to the search, the museum has also recovered paintings the team did not know existed.

Contributions by the authors James Hannan, Pauline Broekema, Renée Volkers, Madelijn van den Nieuwenhuizen and Oscar Ekkelboom discuss Kuster's artistic developments and her position with regard to other artists of her time, her eventful life and rich network in Venlo and - during the Second World War - in Leiden, as well as her stay in Indonesia during the War of Independence.

The result is a rich portrait of an artist, gallerist and freethinker who played a significant role in Dutch Art in the Twentieth century, and who has undeservedly remained unknown to this day.

This publication was published on the occasion of the exhibition Unbounded - The Life  & Work of Giselle Kuster / Onbegrensd - Het leven & werk van Giselle Kuster, at museum van Bommel van Dam (March 22 - August 17, 2025).
