Dreaming of Dreams, the second artist's book by Dutch visual artist Maurice Bogaert, brings together found footage, archive material and self-produced material in a staging where fiction, non-fiction and auto-fiction tumble over each other. An archive of images and text where the reader follows the story while looking and reading, or, conversely, creates their own montage while leafing through the pages. Dreaming of Dreams describes a world that manifests itself between sleeping and waking. A book about dreams, not about the symbolic aspect of dreams, but about dreams as a political act.
Three stories of three characters form the starting point. Or, more precisely, three perspectives are the point of departure that of the Jewish German communist Charlotte Beradt, the Syrian stationmaster Nazem Hussein and that of the (fictional) character named Tillman who, like Maurice Bogaert, grew up in a former mining town in Limburg.
