Landgoed Haverleij is a unique area development on the transition from city to countryside, where living, nature and recreation come together in a special way. In a landscape of castles, avenues and water structures, a new residential environment has emerged that deviates from the norm. What began as a bold idea has, 25 years later, grown into an inspiring example of landscape-conscious urban fringe development.

The Haverleij Estate shows how landscape can function as a guiding principle in spatial design, and how collaboration, design quality and perseverance contribute to spatial value. This development is a unique combination of design, area development, landscape and living. With reflections on design strategies, process, collaboration and the practice of living, this book offers valuable insights for everyone involved in the future of urban peripheries – designers, developers, policymakers and residents.
