In Memoriam - Peter Svenson (1956-2025)

On Thursday 3 July, photographer Peter Svenson passed away. Over the past few years, we had the opportunity to work with Peter and Arja Hop on the creation of the special, awardwinning photo book Felwa, which was published by Jap Sam Books in 2024. This project resulted in the exhibition 'Felwa - Natuur in transititie', which is currently on display at the Coda Museum in Apeldoorn.
Peter was a remarkable person. He studied photographic techniques at Wellington Polytechnic in New Zealand. He also spent a year studying physics at the University of Auckland. In 1982 he emigrated to the Netherlands, where he lived and worked. He worked as a colour printer at the [S]color photographic laboratory in Amsterdam, and, in 2005 he co-founded AAP-lab (Amsterdam Analogical Photoprinting). Through this lab, he played an important role in the work of so many photographers.
As an independent photographer he experimented with a variety of photographic and alchemistic techniques. Together with Arja Hop he developed many important projects, and their work is held in numerous collections. Recently, Peter received a royal award for his great services to photography in the Netherlands.
Team Jap Sam Books wishes Arja, family and loved ones much strength. He will be missed by many.
