This is the first monograph on the Amsterdam architecture office VenhoevenCS. Contributions are by Ton Venhoeven, Bernard Colenbrander, Wim Nijenhuis, Pnina Avidar, Marc Schoonderbeek, Bas Römgens, Tim Habraken and Helga Lasschuijt.
VenhoevenCS is an
ambitious and innovative office for architecture and urbanism with
projects in numerous fields of activity. The designs propose different
ways in which people, animals and things can live together within a
limited space. VenhoevenCS has a desire to create sustainable
solutions, not only in an ecological sense, but also in the sense that
buildings have and retain emotional resonance, and therefore have
longevity.
Not only do VenhoevenCS design a clear outward structure and
appearance, they also load this design with different associations:
these can look like a village, hangar, animal, machine, spaceship or
cave. The skin of the building does not reveal everything about the
interior. It is like the first shot of a movie or a camouflage that
conceals the interior and stimulates our imagination. Patterns,
textures and images on the skin make us curious. Beyond the skin lies a
different world. It contains homelike spaces and adventurous spaces,
intimate and big spaces, organized and messy spaces. The interior is
like a city inside a building.
